From a designer's perspective, OlivierLex has always been represented through subtle strokes and a somewhat minimalist approach. A banner is usually a small area which needs to catch the eye, while evoking some sort of message. Really, it just wants to be clicked. When I was younger, I always loved those books with the semi-transparent overlay. There was one in particular, that I remember showed a strictly two-dimensional sillouette of a city scape. The overlay added shadows, immediately making the image 3D. It was that same sort of depth of field I was aiming for, but in a much gentler way. I wanted the buildings and waving lines to add to the metroplitan feeling of the banner, without taking away from the name and logo.
